FAYETTEVILLE – The eighth-ranked Razorbacks (3-0-1) handed Milwaukee (2-1-2) its first loss of the season with a 5-2 victory to finish unbeaten in August’s slate of matches.

First Half

Senior forward Ava Tankersley, the team leader in shots on target, netted her first goal of the season to give the Hogs an early lead four minutes into the match. Graduate forward Morgan White linked with Tankersley on a through ball that Tankersley chipped over the Milwaukee goalkeeper.

Tankersley was involved in the Hogs’ second goal and drew a foul inside the penalty box that allowed Arkansas keeper Sierra Cota-Yarde to convert her second penalty kick of the season.

The Panthers cut the lead to one in the 40^th minute, the first goal Arkansas has allowed at Razorback Field in 2023, but the Razorbacks punched back three minutes later. Senior defender Emilee Hauser took a free kick that was headed twice before finding the back of the net. Freshman Emma Johns found it first and midfielder Bea Franklin finished it off with her second goal of the season.

The Hogs, who haven’t trailed at halftime all season, outshot the Panthers, 9-2, in the first 45 minutes of action.

Second Half

White added a fourth goal to her team-leading total in the 52^nd minute after freshman Avery Wren’s ball from the midfield pulled Milwaukee’s goalkeeper out to the top of the 18-yard box, leaving the goal wide open for White to score her fourth goal in three matches.

The Panthers netted a penalty of their own in the 69^th minute after Cota-Yarde collided with Kayla Rollins inside the box. Lola Wojcik’s kick cut the lead to two with 20 minutes to play.

An 84th-minute goal by first-time scorer sophomore Kacie Laurie propelled the Hogs to their first three-goal victory of the season. Laurie’s left-footed shot came after a Panther defender attempted to clear the ball out of the box but left it loose near the penalty spot.

Arkansas finished the match ahead in shots, 14-6. Freshman Bella Field tied her career high of three shots to lead the team.

Next Up

The Hogs will visit fourth-ranked North Carolina (3-0-2) on Sunday, September 4, for a ranked matchup that will air on the ACC Network. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT. The Tar Heels defeated Gardner-Webb, 5-0, on Thursday night.
