What’s it like to star in one of Netflix’s most beloved series? Madison Bailey, who plays Kiara in Outer Banks, certainly knows. For starters, you get a loyal fanbase that’s still obsessed with your show three seasons in. You also get opportunities to work with the likes of Fenty Beauty, which is pretty much the closest to finding IRL treasure you can get—especially when you’re filming in the blazing North Carolina sun.
“I’ve been in the sun a lot more than I typically am on a regular summer, so I’m really protecting my skin,” Bailey says of her Outer Banks–inspired skin care journey. In fact, she’s so passionate about SPF that her must-have desert island product is sunscreen.
“One product on a desert island? I’m going to go with the Fenty Skin Hydra Vizor,” Bailey says. “It’s like a moisturizer and an SPF 30 sunscreen in one, so I think that would take care of my two main concerns on a desert island, which are hydration and sun protection.”

Bailey is just as pro-SPF in her everyday life too. “I’ve bumped up SPF and am keeping my skin hydrated, because breaking out during filming is the worst,” she says. As for how she treats on-set breakouts? “I either spot treat it or just let it run its course. I’m a big fan of an extractor, so if it’s possible to do that, I’m doing that. But really, I’m avoiding makeup on my off time, and letting my skin breathe as much as I can.”
Now that Bailey has found a routine that really works—while filming in the humidity of the South, no less—I ask what advice she has for others trying to do the same. “I would say find your priority products. There are some things to never skimp on, like sunscreen, moisturizer, makeup removal,” she says. “Get in the steps that you can is my advice. And keep your products simple if you’re traveling and you’re going to be on set in a new environment and all of that. Try less new products, and don’t overwhelm your skin.”
