Seven-time Mr. Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger recently sat for an interview with Chris Wallace. During the interview, Schwarzenegger talked in depth about his life and achievement. However, when Chris Wallace asked Arnie about aging, the bodybuilding legend didn’t give an optimistic answer. The former bodybuilding champion revealed despising his body as he lost the vitality of youth. However, that didn’t stop the 75-year-old from pursuing health and wellness.

The 75-year-old regularly workout at Gold’s gym and is fitter than many people his age. Now the evergreen action hero has revealed that exercising might be paying off in more ways than one. In the latest edition of Arnold’s Pump Club, the bodybuilding icon revealed a bizarre relationship between working out and aging.

Regular exercise, including muscle building and cardio, and balance, are some of the best tools against aging. 61-year-old Tom Cruise has honed these three elements and performs like someone half his age. however, Arnold Schwarzenegger said exercise also helps a person’s skin look younger.

 

“A little bit of sweat might be the skincare solution you didn’t realize you needed,” Arnie wrote in a bizarre statement. However, his statement carried more nuance, which he elaborated on. The 75-year-old highlighted a study that found regular weight training and aerobic workouts “resulted in skin improvements, such as better skin elasticity, dermal structure, and skin tone.”

According to the Hollywood action star, working out “defends your skin against the natural aging of the cells in your skin” by helping the body fight inflammation. The study also found that exercise increases the body’s collagen production. Collagen is a protein that helps the skin become healthier. However, one doesn’t need to train like a bodybuilder to get these benefits.

Training intensity is not the priority

Schwarzenegger said the people participating in the study didn’t train like athletes. The people who did cardio exerted only 65 to 75 percent of their effort for 30 mins. The group that performed weight training did 6 exercises. They performed 3 sets of 10 reps. Professional bodybuilders and athletes train for far longer with far more intensity.

This could be a reason why the study especially attracted Arnie. In his newsletter, Arnold Schwarzenegger recommends short and moderate-intensity workouts even the busiest person can find time for.
